Canada Burnout Speaker: Helping Organizations Prevent Burnout with Science-Backed Strategies

Let’s be real - burnout is everywhere. If you’re working in Canada, chances are you or someone on your team is feeling the strain. Long hours, relentless deadlines, and aggressive performance goals are catching up with people.

But you know what else we’re feeling these days? Patriotic.

I’m born, raised, educated, and working in Canada. And so, I would like to take this opportunity to share my work with you, a fellow Canadian.

As a burnout speaker, I work with organizations in Canada and abroad to bridge the gap between neuroscience, management research, and real-world burnout solutions.

My goal? To help teams stop the cycle of burnout and build workplaces where people can actually thrive.

Burnout in Canada: A Growing Challenge

Burnout isn’t just an individual problem - it’s a systemic issue. If companies don’t address it, they risk lower engagement, higher turnover, and declining productivity. Canadian employees are already sounding the alarm, and it’s time for leaders to take action.

How bad is it? 60% of Canadian employees report experiencing workplace-related stress, with 34% saying they feel stressed "very often." Even more alarming, 75% of workers say aggressive performance targets are a major source of stress (Benefits and Pensions Monitor, Benefits Canada).

And yet, burnout is still misunderstood. Companies scramble to offer quick fixes—maybe a yoga session, an app, or a wellness challenge. But real burnout prevention isn’t about self-care alone. It’s about changing the way we work. That’s where I come in.

I’ve been studying stress, mental health, and neuroscience for over a decade now! I started my business in 2021, in response to seeing Canadians struggle with burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bringing Science to the Stage: My Work as a Canada Burnout Speaker

I’ve been fortunate to work with leading Canadian organizations that recognize the urgent need for burnout prevention strategies. Some of my Canadian clients include:

  • Government of Canada

  • Bank of Montreal (BMO)

  • Stratford Festival

  • City of Ottawa

  • The Royal Canadian Mint

  • Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC)

  • Soldier On

  • International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

In my keynotes and workshops, I go beyond basic stress relief tips. I dive into how stress affects the brain and body, what actually works for burnout prevention, and how leaders can create a culture that supports well-being.

What I love most about working local, Canadian teams (besides how nice everyone is!) is that Canadians have a really foundation for wellbeing and health.

This means that we can really focus on strategy and optimizing the workday!

The Science Behind My Work: A Decade-Long Journey in Stress Research

I’ve spent over a decade studying stress and burnout in Canada - long before I started speaking on the topics professionally. My academic career spans three top Canadian universities, where I’ve researched neuroscience, psychology, and organizational behaviour to uncover what really causes burnout (and how to prevent it).

BSc in Neuroscience and Mental Health – Carleton University

My journey started at Carleton University, where I completed my BSc in Neuroscience and Mental Health with a minor in Psychology. My honours research focused on supporting students with concussion recovery, which led me to develop an online course for young adults navigating post-concussion symptoms.

This work showed me how stress, brain function, and recovery are deeply interconnected - a theme that is prominent in my work now!

On a whim, I took an elective in Organizational Psychology. I was instantly captivated and decided to pursue my Masters in a field that surprised many people: Management!

While it seemed like a jump to some, for me management and neuroscience are deeply connected. After all, you use your brain to work!

MSc in Management – University of Ottawa

At the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management, I completed my MSc in Management, focusing on workplace stress and leadership. My thesis, "Mechanisms of Transformational Leadership’s Influence on Employee Appraisal of Workplace Stressors," explored how leadership styles impact employees’ stress levels.

You can read my thesis, if you want!

My research really reinforced the idea that leaders play a crucial role in shaping workplace stress cultures. I found that when leaders empower their employees, employees tend to view job stressors as challenges they can attend to, rather than hindrances that will get in their way.

PhD in Work Stress and Resilience – Concordia University (In Progress)

Now, I’m pursuing my PhD at Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business, specializing in work stress and resilience. My research focuses on understanding how people interpret and respond to stress at work, and how organizations can foster resilience at a structural level.

Awards and Recognitions

Throughout my research career, I’ve been fortunate to receive multiple awards, including:

  • Canada Graduate Scholarship, SSHRC (2022-2025) – Recognizing high-caliber scholars in Canada.

  • Ontario Graduate Scholarship (2019, 2020, 2021) – Awarded for excellence in graduate studies.

  • Telfer Excellence Scholarship (2019, 2020) – Granted for outstanding academic performance.

  • Human Resources Research Institute's Best Master’s Thesis Award (2021) – Recognized for my research on leadership and workplace stress.

TEDx Talk: How to Relieve Stress When You’re Overwhelmed

A defining moment in my career was delivering a TEDx Talk at Université de Montréal, titled "How to Relieve Stress When You’re Overwhelmed." Selected as an Editor’s Pick by TED, this talk reached a global audience and shared science-backed stress relief techniques.

In the talk, I break down how to effectively regulate stress in real-time. These same principles form the foundation of my corporate talks, equipping teams with actionable strategies to manage stress and prevent burnout.

From Research to Real-World Solutions: Launching My Business

When the global pandemic hit, workplace stress skyrocketed. Burnout became a daily reality for employees across Canada, and it was clear that organizations needed more than quick-fix wellness solutions. They needed real change.

That’s why I launched my business - to bring science-backed stress management and burnout prevention strategies to Canadian workplaces. By combining my research expertise with practical solutions, I help organizations take burnout prevention beyond surface-level initiatives and create lasting change.

How Canadian Organizations Can Combat Burnout

In an ever-changing world, burnout prevention matters more than ever. Workplaces across Canada are facing similar burnout challenges, including:

  • High Workloads & Expectation Creep: Employees are constantly asked to do more with fewer resources. Common causes of workplace burnout include high workload, lack of community, and a lack of autonomy.

  • Leadership Burnout: Managers are struggling to support their teams while staying afloat themselves.

  • Work-Life Balance Issues: Remote and hybrid work blurs boundaries between professional and personal life.

  • Lack of Psychological Safety: Employees need workplaces that encourage open conversations about stress and mental health.

The solution isn’t just about self-care, it’s about structural change. My work focuses on helping organizations implement science-backed strategies that create burnout-resistant workplaces.
